Jari-Matti Latvala and Miika Anttila, our World Rally Team’s ace duo of the 2017 season managed phenomenal results in their first WRC season with TOYOTA GAZOO Racing. Here’s a quick peek into their history.
From his teenage years, Jari-Matti Latvala had always wanted to be a rally driver even though he didn’t understand anything about cars. He first participated in the 2002 Rally Great Britain at just 17 years old. Finishing in 17th position didn’t discourage him, as he continued chasing after his dream. Now known for his aggressive driving style, Latvala is often compared to late rally legend Colin McRae.
Having driven with Latvala since Rally Deutschland in 2003, Miika Anttila has stuck with Latvala through the highs and lows of the WRC for 15 years. Anttila was so dedicated to rally racing, he missed the birth of his 2nd child so that he could challenge Rally Spain in 2011. The duo finished on the podium in 3rd place and since then, Anttila has become more of a family man. Spending as much time as he can with the family during the off-season, and also supporting his kid’s ice hockey ambition.
The pair has been racing together since the beginning of Latvala’s career and the level of trust they have established truly shines when they tackle the stages together throughout the seasons. Considered to be one of the most accomplished drivers in the WRC, Jari-Matti Latvala has finished 1st once and runners-up twice last year and is currently chasing after the coveted Championship!
